As you sing in worship this Sabbath, consider every word you sing as a movement toward the Divine. We are not only worshipping our Creator God, but also moving closer to Him, striving to know Him, claiming His promises, and illustrating our faith and hope in His soon coming.
Samuel Stennet penned the words “On Jordan’s stormy banks I stand and cast a wishful eye” in 1787, in what became a hymn we still sing in churches today. What is less known is Samuel Stennet was a Seventh-day Baptist minister, a great believer in God as creator.
